Speaking for myself, I do feel like a well loved rag doll today. Like Rhonda said this weekend, this season has been one of sudden changes and that in itself is exhausting. Just when you think you know and understand the plan, there's a change.
Thursday was a day in which we ended it feeling a bit shaken. Our time with Dr. Long and the transplant staff at Duke was a lot to absorb, but it also seem to draw some pretty definite boundaries on how Rhonda could spend her time prior to readmission and that she would very likely go into Forsyth Medical on Tuesday ( tomorrow) As a result of being told "no" to a much anticipated beach trip we reoriented our thinking and made the most of the weekend. Rhonda had sweet time with friends and rested happily on Dan and Phyllis' front porch couch whenever possible. Intimate and larger gatherings through the weekend gave us all sweet tastes of heaven.
Today we went back to see Dr. Grote - w/ Forsyth Med. He kept the visit short, but encouraged us to go for it. "Take the week and go to the beach, just be back in the office on Monday ready to start." He said that he wants her to be prepared as much as possible for the next phase of treatment. Physically she can't really rest up for the treatments, but emotionally she could start off rested and happy.
We're scrambling to find a friend whose beach house is available in NC or SC near an aquarium. (Volunteers appreciated) That's where she wants to be. Her energy is not great, but time sitting on the beach or in front of the large tanks watching the beauty of His creation will be healing.
Let's see, after seeing Dr Grote; Phyl, Rhonda and I met Deb for lunch. We never have trouble laughing when we get together and usually attract a crowd - we're actually getting a reputation for that in the Oncology Dept!
Then I swept her off for a wonderful massage. A friend who is a massage therapist worked on her for over an hour. I think she floated out of MacKenzie's house on the way to the car.
When I dropped her off at Dan and Phyllis' she quickly settled back in to the porch furniture and kisses from the Calhouns.
Just a peek at her day. We'll keep you updated.
- Pray for safe and fun trip to the beach
- Pray for her parents as they drive down on Sunday from Ohio to NC
- Pray for a donor match! Each of her sisters would love to be the one.
- Pray that His presence would be fresh to her each morning and to us all.
- Give thanks that she was able to sleep through the night last night for the first time since July. Pray for more restful nights.
- Give thanks for the many ways He is present and is showering us with Himself.
Peace,
Wendy
